http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1akWAE0J8cAbecedarium:NYC co-director Lynne Sachs floats down the Gowanus Canal with environmental visionary Ludger Balan, head of the Urban Divers Estuary Conservancy on Earth Day, April 21, 2008. Ludger talks about the impact of the Gowanus waters on our community in terms of the chemical presence in our ecosystem. It’s scary to think about and exciting to know there are people like this who are trying to change the environmental status quo.

Says the famous Spongebob Squarepants. Going to the beach, when it’s not crowded, is a fun thing to do. Everyone should try it. But you’re at a risk of getting strep throat or some sort of sickness. It happens every time, on the days when it’s not crowded (November-February). Anyways, I took these photos at Coney Island, so enjoy. I think they’re very pretty.

The CircusHoop-la! The circus is in town!

Have you seen the elephant?

Have you seen the clown?

Have you seen the dappled horse gallop around the ring?

Have you seen the acrobats on the dizzy swing?

Have you seen the tumbling men tumble up and down?

Hoop-la! Hoop-la! The circus is in town!

Holus Bolus: An “all at once” poem

BY | Posted on | FILED UNDER Categories Brooklyn, Holus Bolus, Places, Words

Holus Bolus
Every morning I try to get up on time,
sometimes I get up to see the sun shine.
Sometimes I wake up to catch the last drop of dark,
or watch the last drop of rain trickle down the tree’s bark.
Some mornings I find it hard to wake at all,
until from under the covers I force myself to crawl.
I can’t stand being late in the fresh morning air,
don’t want to rush through the weather, so fair.
But most mornings are different, I take joy
that all at once they walk to school, every girl and every boy.

All at once.

picture-1.pngThe Square People gathering at night to enjoy restaurants, movies, theaters. All sorts of wonderful entertainment in one colorful square. A square that would become a celebration point for all America. The VE Day celebrations there would echo around the world. All this can only mean one square, the Times Square before the New York Times built a new building on 43rd Street in 1904. To give the name Times Square it was known as Longacre SquareEarlier the turn of the century a somewhat dangerous place, a  place where only villains and the like would dare enter – Reginald Stanley Birch
